“Trust me.” That’s what every marketer worries their viewer is NOT doing.

When it comes to making video, I’ve found there’s a big difference between engagement and trust. It’s like the difference between entertainment and wisdom. Get them confused and you’re going to be learning the hard way.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t try to engage your audience with “edutainment”. If you can, that’s a wonderful thing. There are few audiences for video where some form of edutainment wouldn’t work.

But it’s all for nothing if it doesn’t build trust. Why do you think most video makers are scared to death of humor?

Let’s look at how this trust thing works on video.

Nice. Who is the quote from? ” … to thousands of someones you haven’t even met.” Would like to attribute it correctly.

        It’s my own quote.

Another beautiful video. Using your own style to convey your message makes it your own and not a copy of “the other guy/gal.”

One of the more important lessons, to be sure!

Steve, you always make me happy that I clicked the “play” button! Thanks for this.

Thanks for your kind words, Allison!

Once again, thanks Steve for another inspirational, yet effective and useful video to guide us.

I love that you caught how a video can be effective without necessarily being useful. Thanks, Peter!

I have been repeatedly putting off starting my training videos for almost three years now, out of my recently-discovered allergy to and fear of little red LED lights. As soon as the record button was on and that darn little red LED light turned on, I would freeze.

I have learned to have more confidence and more of a conversation-based relationship with the camera, using your on-screen persona as my model. I think that it finally clicked and I am so dearly thankful to you for videos like this one. You make me think of things I never even considered going into this endeavor and it’s all gold.

      You’re so helpful to me.
      Thank you sir.

You’re welcome. But couldn’t it be that you just see my video and think, well, if he can do it, anyone can do it! So your comment, while much appreciated, doesn’t do yourself justice!
